CRHS Celebrates Homecoming Week

It's Homecoming Week at Coon Rapids High School and that means spirit days, a parade and powderpuff football action.

The Coon Rapids High School marching band played in the Homecoming Parade Wednesday night as dozens of people gathered along the half-mile route on Northdale Boulevard.  The pride of the Coon Rapids community was on display, along with several school clubs and activities.

After the parade, a bevy of 80 girls took the field for the powderpuff games. Four teams of girls from the senior class played using flag football rules. The teams included the Packers, the Saints, the Bears and the Vikings. It was a demonstration of skill, athleticism and agility. The games ran on a 30 minute running-clock.

In the final match-up, the Bears met the Vikings for the championship game. The Vikings beat the Bears in a 14-7 victory. Ava Kehr, running back for the Vikings, scored two touchdowns in the game.

“It’s really fun to be in powderpuff,” Kehr said. “It’s something that we’ve been looking forward to since we were freshman. It’s pretty cool to be a part of this.”
