New Animal Impound Facility

Dove rKennels

As of March 1, any stray animals picked up by our Community Service Officers will be taken to Dover Kennels, located at 16422 Hanson Blvd. Owners have five days to claim stray animals and are responsible for fees and costs related to animal care. The City is not responsible for the costs of housing, feeding or animal care while being housed at Dover Kennels.

Dover Kennels also keeps stray chickens. If you are an owner who has lost a bird, be sure to check with Dover Kennels to see if the bird has been picked up and taken to the facility. In 2016, the Coon Rapids City Council passed an ordinance to allow residents to raise backyard chickens. Up to four female chickens are allowed with a chicken permit.
