Get to Know Chief Steiner
Professionally
Chief Steiner grew up in Coon Rapids and was a 1991 graduate of Coon Rapids Senior High School. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Law Enforcement from Minnesota State University - Mankato in 1995, completed his police skills program at Alexandria Technical College and is a graduate of the Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command.
Chief Steiner started with the Coon Rapids Police Department on January 27, 1997 and has served in a variety of roles including Patrol Officer, Drug Task Force Investigator, Detective, Patrol Sergeant, Detective Sergeant and Captain of the Patrol and Investigations divisions. He became the Acting Chief of Police in April of 2023 and took the oath of office as the permanent Chief of Police on August 2nd, 2023.
Personally
Chief Steiner and his wife of 28 years are lifelong residents of Anoka County and have three adult children, all currently in college. He also boasts having the world's coolest dog, a Wirehaired Pointing Griffon named Griswold (Yes, named after Clark W. Griswold). He enjoys hunting, fishing, spending summer weekends at the family cabin in Northern Minnesota and an occasional winter trip to someplace warm.
